What's happening in Lincoln, CA

Unelected politburo's in charge of government
Issue:
Citizen at a city workshop on sustainable communities asks a CEO of quasigovernment organization (Sacramento Area Council of Governments) what the plans (MTP/SCS) mean for her private property (cattle ranch and resident of Rocklin, CA)

Violation:
Business and Private Property

Problem:
1) Citizens are being trained that asking unelected and unaccountable organizations is the norm for government
2) Wouldn't citizens rather have their local elected officials responding and accountable to them?!
3) Citizen is being told what her options are for her property and livelihood

City outling wood and pellet stoves
Issue:
City dictates appropriate heating elements in residential homes. No wood or pellet stoves allowed.  Natural Gas only.

Violation:
Private Property

Problem:
1) Government exists to protect and promote public health, safety and welfare.  In the case of a catastrophic event in winter, how are families to keep warm with power and gas supply interruptions?  Wouldn't this make government responsible for deaths and illnesses from exposure in this case?  We complain about government responses to Katrina and Sandy AND yet we give them the authority to regulate and limit heating elements on private property?
2) Where is the line where government can/cannot dictate what appliances are in your house (FYI... there are Energy Star incentives in this same report)?

Private property zoned out of the owner's control
Issue:
Land use of private property is re-designated without consent of property owner

Violation:
Business and Private Property

Problem:
1) Government, without consent of private property owner, dictates for what purposes he can use his land (rancher).  Ranch is turned over to 'open space'.  This severely limits his livelihood.
2) Property has been owned and operated cattle ranching successfully since 1947
3) One objective of sustainable development is to have employment near residential units to minimize pollutants resulting from transportation.  For the sake of bringing in employment we're kicking out an outfit that has successfully operated for a very long time???
4) It is unlawful and criminal for, say a neighborhood group, to collectively re-designate another's property, without consent, for a specific use they desire yet it is ok for government to make exceptions to the law to re-designate use of private property?  If it is not ok at the neighborhood level,  and law applies to all equally, why is the exception allowed at a larger level?  Authority?  Size of group (i.e. city)?  Money?  Is this fair and just?  Is this 'law' when exceptions are made by a larger group for convenience ?  If so, what is next that a larger group says is ok and will get away with?

Government contracts to cronies
Issue:
Government dictates which companies are eligible to bid for construction projects.  Or in other words, government picks winners and losers in business.

Violation:
Business

Problem:
1) Government dictates which businesses are eligible to bid for construction projects.  Only companies in compliance with strict and expensive diesel requirements are eligible to bid for development construction projects.
2) Government excludes many businesses that cannot afford diesel upgrades to their fleet.  Therefore, large companies only get larger while small businesses close doors and start-ups are near impossible
3) Government 'doesn't like' big companies and corporations yet they create policies by which companies become larger by eliminating competition and equal business opportunity
